🚨(URGENT) We're Ending "The Sum Up"

But as something dies, something new is born. Bit dramatic for a newsletter, but it's true.

WE'RE ENDING THE SUM UP AND HERE'S WHY
But as something dies, something new is born. Bit dramatic for a newsletter, but it's true.
What the heck? The Sum Up? On a Monday at 6PM? That's right. But we come in peace, and we bear a gift.
Ladies and gentlemen, we never thought this would happen, but we are announcing the end of The Sum Up.

I'm Matt, the writer. And I'm Pat, the designer. We started this newsletter in October of 2023, with the mission to give you lessons you haven't heard of, from people you have heard of.

But now, we're going to halt editions of The Sum Up. But why am I not crying? Why do I have a glimmer in my eye?

Because we're not done with newsletters. For the last 2 months we have been running something called Newseum, which summarizes some of the top solopreneur newsletters.

People like Dan Koe, Ali Abdaal, Codie Sanchez, etc. Think Blinkist (like book summaries), but for newsletters. We take their reads and make them more digestable, without losing the value.

So whether you read these already and want to save time, or you're just an avid learner who loves business, productivity, and self improvement, this is the newsletter for you.

We send out an edition ever Thursday at 9AM EST, so we'll be in your inbox tomorrow. Until then...

How To Reset Your Life In 7 Days
I had months where I was in a creative flow, but it feels like that’s faded. What I noticed is, we’re quite similar to computers. In a computer, the more tabs you have open, the slower the performance. Most people run tabs of stressful events, regrets, and slow down their own performance. The way to reset that crowded browser in 7 days? First, pull out a notebook and write what you do daily, and how you feel morning and night. Step 2 is to write down what your ideal life does look like, then break it down into manageable goals. If you want money, how are you going to get it? Step 3 is prioritize only things that get you results. What little things crept into your day that aren’t serving you? Step 4 is 30 minutes of self education, then 30 minutes of building a project. Step 5 is create a week long plan. If not plotted out, you’ll be led back towards your old life, not the change you seek.

Prioritizing Your Time [Eisenhower Matrix]
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the President of the United States and the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II. Besides those two pretty big accomplishments, he also created something called the Eisenhower Matrix. This Matrix has 4 quadrants. The top left is "Do". "Do" happens when something is both urgent (deadline) and important. Knock that off the list immediately. The top right is "Schedule." That happens when something is important, but not urgent. No need to work on that and ignore bigger priorities. The bottom left quadrant is "Delegate," which happens when something is urgent, but not important. Outsource the work so you can focus on higher level things. Lastly, if something is not important and not urgent, go with the bottom right quadrant, which is "Delete." There's no use for things that have no deadline and no importance to you.

Active vs. Passive Learning
What sounds like a better marriage? An arranged marriage with someone who doesn’t know you, or you going in and out of relationships until eventually you find the person you know you want to be with. The answer should be the first, which we’ll call passive, you’re in control. The first is active, it’s managed. There’s also active and passive learning. Active meaning your told what to learn and how to learn it. Passive is you doing what you want, letting your mind go anywhere, trying new things, etc. School is a good example of active learning, and people may end up thinking they “hate learning” when they really just have not been learning the right things in their own way. Learn outside of your profession or major. Everything in life is interconnected. Businessmen need to learn from biology, and biologists may need to learn a thing or to from business. Also, give yourself time to think. Jobs used to be very hands on. Now, we’re using our brain a little more. But sometimes we need to be told to, or we need to allow ourselves to. So let it roam free.
