HOW JIM ROHNβ€˜S 3 WHYS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

We're telling you, this stuff works. Don't ask us why. Ask Jim Rohn instead. 3 times.

Tony Robbins’ Mentor

Jim Rohn was a prominent American motivational speaker and author, known for his influential ideas on personal development and success.

Born in 1930, he rose from humble beginnings to become a key figure in the self-improvement industry, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline, personal responsibility, and lifelong learning. He even mentored Tony Robbins, who we wrote about last week.

Rohn's work, including books like "7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness," has inspired millions worldwide, making him a lasting figure in the world of motivation and personal growth.

Rohn gave a powerful speech around a decade ago, with 3 questions.

Four questions that are so simple, yet could lead to the most profound answers.

Jim Rohn, you silly little jokester. Let’s get into the real questions.

The 1st Question

The first is how tall are you?

Just kidding… again. We got you didn’t we. That plays no part in your success (although I am on the smaller scale and have noticed I’m not yet a millionaire. Coincidence?)

The first question is actually much more complex than that. Why? That is the entire question.

Why pay the price? Why go this far? Why try to learn this much? Why try to do it all?

I think you get it. The list of whys goes on and on.

Without a why, why would you do anything? If you don’t know your deep fundamental reason, it’s no wonder it never gets done.

If you want more income, why? To travel? Why? To see more places? Why? To feel free.

Not that kind of free, we don’t endorse breaking out of jail. Anyways…

Get to the root cause. Why you may ask (you’re probably asking a lot of why’s)? Because if you’re actually interested in getting what you say it is you want, you need a clear-as-day answer as to the reason you’re going for it.

The 2nd Question

Why? Oh wait, that was the first one. The second has one addition to it: Why not?

Why not see how much you can earn? Why not see what kind of influence you can have? Why not see what kind of person you can become?

Can you come up with good reasons to not become the best version of yourself? Or to learn as many skills as you can learn?

Most of the time the only answers the brain can conjure up are out of pure fear or laziness. Why not become your best self? Because I’ve never done it. Because it requires work.

Are those sound reasons? Not really. After rolling through these 2 questions, here’s what we have, hypothetically speaking

Why do I want more income? To travel. Why? To feel free.

Why not make more income? Because it’s hard. It requires work. It takes a long time.

Now which of these sounds more like the real you? Which of these sounds more like the you that’s holding you back?

The 3rd Question

Try adding β€œyou” to the end of that phrase as well. Why not you?

If Jim Rohn can do it, why not you? If Drake can do it, why not you? Sure, maybe they’re taller. That’s an advantage for sure.

But are you going to let that stop you? Will I let my height stop me? Probably not.

We tend to think things are out of the scope of what is possible for us. But, we have a quick newsflash for you. And it has nothing to do with the weather.

If a human has done it, you can do it. It’s that simple. At the end of the day, there are a lot cooler things going on in this lifetime than someone making some more money, or taking that lil risk.

We’re all made up of the same stuff. Me, you, and that tall guy. Even though the tall guy seems better. Clearly, I’m self-conscious and need help, but you get it.

So can you give yourself a reason? Why can’t it be you who achieves your goal? After all, it’s your goal for yourself, right? Who else would achieve it, if not you?

Let’s recap:

Why?

Why not?

Why not you?

(It has a nice downward progression there doesn’t it?)

Find your why so you always have it handy. When you don’t feel like following through with your mission or your purpose, you have that list of why’s to help fight back.

Find your why-nots to point out the weak spots. Is there really a reason not to get better? And more importantly, are those reasons valid? Are they serving you?

Find your β€œwhy not you’s.” If it’s possible, why can’t you do it? If someone has done it, why can’t you? What is different about them?

Sometimes there is actually something. Like money. Or height. But other times, they were just willing to do the work for a while.

Are you?
